Energy2D is an interactive visual simulation program that demonstrates the three mechanisms of heat transfer, conductivity, convection, and radiation. Students can use it as a testing tool to explore and investigate the heat and mass fluxes of two-dimensional structures under different environmental conditions, such as sunlight and wind. Work is underway to provide sensor interfaces to integrate other forms of energy conversion and create mixed-reality applications to make it more general. Energy2D can be used to teach energy concepts in the fields of earth science, physics, and engineering.
